I am Archie Backx, a wedding photographer from Haarlem with a long-standing love for the craft. My photography began in the darkroom and with a Nikon FE in hand; that background is visible in my work: attention to light, atmosphere and the decisive moment. I have worked professionally since 1994, and over the years I have developed wedding reportages that are not run-of-the-mill, but a distinctive reflection of your day. As a wedding photographer I prefer a documentary eye on the wedding day: I observe, anticipate and capture genuine moments. That means no stiff direction, but a relaxed guidance that lets you be yourselves. At the same time I can step in with studio experience when requested — I worked for many years as a studio photographer and know how to light locations and people perfectly when more posed images are desired. What sets me apart is the combination of experience in concert and event photography and calm studio technique. As the resident concert photographer at the Patronaat and as a festival photographer I learned to handle challenging light and a lot of movement — I use that experience to capture emotion and dynamics in wedding photos, even in difficult lighting conditions. At the same time I remain true to a warm, human style: your wedding photos should evoke the atmosphere and small details of the day, even years later. My working method is personal and involved. We make contact in advance to discuss your plans and wishes so I can prepare for what matters to you. On the day itself I work calmly and purposefully; I seek out genuine moments and also create comfortable situations for portraits. After the reportage I carefully select and edit the images, paying attention to color, composition and the emotion of the moment.
